BABY MATTERS

Purpose

Baby Matters is a program for families with infants 0 to 12 months. Families struggling with low income, health conditions, drug or alcohol use, social isolation, unhealthy relationships are welcome. This program is available through referral or voluntary participation and offered at no cost until the baby is one year of age.

Process
Baby Matters relies on individual goal setting to establish what success looks like for each participant. Flexibility in our programming, transportation support, follow-up and group meetings all serve to develop a support system.

Baby Matters meets weekly to discuss parenting issues, family dynamics and self-care. Participants have the opportunity to learn from the facilitator, presenters and each other.

Outcomes
The goal of Baby Matters is to help families achieve a healthy weight gain in their newborn baby. Post-natal support can include information from group meetings, relationships formed with other participants and connections to other community, family and parenting resources to see their new baby thrive.

Success Story
Sometimes the simplest information is the most effective. Janice was a mom who attended the McMan Baby Matters program to talk about her struggles with her baby not sleeping more than 1-2 hours at a time and how that was negatively impacting her life. After spending time with other moms, and talking with the facilitator, she was able to use the information to help her baby sleep. This mom was very grateful for what seemed like such simple information.
